With the inventiveness of The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and the raw brutality of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Sisters Under the Skin is a unique crime thriller, featuring a series of deeply involving twists, and concluding with one of 2020's most unsettling finales. Erma Bridges dreams of violence. After years of dedication to academic research, her career is falling apart, all because of a mysterious workplace complaint. Erma suspects Jenny, a vindictive colleague, who has seemingly disappeared. Panicked, overworked and on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Erma sets out to find Jenny. Through her search, she uncovers a dark series of crimes on campus - do they have something to do with Jenny's disappearance? As a web of brutality unfurls around her, Erma discovers a side of herself that she'd long thought hidden. Can she put an end to the darkness around her without losing herself completely?

Mehso-so

Book no. 200 was a strange read. The story was an average standard thriller, then suddenly, the book changes & becomes one of the Choose Your Own Adventure books - only not as good. I was rather confused about what was happening at times. 3⭐

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Bonnier Books UK/Zaffre, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Pickpick

In amongst the chaos of toys & dragging the baby‘s grabby hands away from the tree (see beads hanging off), I‘ve been reading this ARC.

Erma is conducting research on CYO adventure books, girls are going missing around her campus & she‘s facing a disciplinary after allegations are made against her by a former student.

It‘s intriguing from the off & in bits...it gets a little...well, batshit. Not going to be top of 2020 but an interesting read!
