Good, diverting, but not great. My biggest complaint is somewhat spoilery, so I'll put it in the comments, but while this is an interesting take on a possession story, it reads a little too much like something a trying-to-be-edgy jerk I knew in college would have written. This novel has much more plot than I ever saw him muster, but it's similar in tone, theme, and visuals. The sheriff character makes little sense, nor do the tamagotchi/nano pets.

ImperfectCJ With 20+ years associated with the pharmaceutical industry in one way or another, I had trouble with a presumably somewhat knowledgeable character who refers to a treatment in what appears to be Phase III trials as "in beta." Given the direction of pharma these days, I would be surprised if this untargeted an approach would be pursued in real life, although the new interest in psychedelics might be evidence to the contrary. 1y

Usually I give 3.5‘s a pick but I couldn‘t quite get myself to do that since a pick is me recommending a book. Which idk if I would for this one. It‘s definitely different from what I was expecting which isn‘t necessarily a bad thing. It‘s weird and at times a little verbose. However the overall plot and mystery kept me reading to the end. I also think the author did a good job of talking about addiction and what it‘s really like.
