Every now and then a author writes a book that completely charms, and entertain me. Amy Harmon is that author and THE SONGBOOK OF BENNY LAMENT is that irresistible read.
I LOVED, loved everything about this book, Harmon's telling of this tale is lyrical, it's a fascinating love story set during a very tumultuous time. I enjoyed the way she twines the music, mob, politics, racial injustices, humor and the sweetest love story into one perfect novel.

I enjoyed this story, which I partially read, and also listened to, because it touches on so many subjects that America still struggles with today. Love, equality, and acceptance seem to be the themes of this narrative and enjoyed the premise a great deal..

Really loved this one! So well researched! Loved the mix of fiction and nonfiction! I hope they turn this one into a movie. In the top reads for 2021!

I really liked this one! I both read the e-book and listened to the audiobook (thanks to audible/kindle unlimited, that little perk was free and it was amazing, first time I've been able to do that) and the audio version is just as good as reading it.

Benny loves his father but wants to be nothing like him. He tries to distance himself from the mob and focus on music. Still when his father asks him to go see Esther Mine perform he cannot refuse and finds himself instantly drawn to her vocals. Esther isn‘t just a singer to Esther‘s father and she and Benny become entangled by music, danger from their pasts, and by their growing feelings for each other and the racism they face because of them.

Jas16 I should really stop being surprised by how much I enjoy a book by Amy Harmon since I haven‘t read anything by her I haven‘t liked. I partially listened to the audio and partially read the ebook. The audio was well done. (edited) 4y

The Song Book of Benny Lament by Amy Harmon is one of the best books I‘ve read in a long time. The Song Book of Benny Lament is a story of love, race, and music. The story alternates between a radio interview of Benny Lament on The Barry Gray Show and the past.
