Dr. Judson Brewer makes the case that we can control anxiety by changing our thoughts. He also makes the connection between anxiety and addiction. Feeling overwhelmed by worry is a part of my daily life and I‘ve noticed it‘s become a habit that I need to break. Nearly an addiction to these horrible thoughts at this point. So this book did help me take a step back and reflect on how I may be able to take control. Still working on that though.

I‘ve not read much about anxiety, despite living with it and panic attacks for years. The author draws a line between anxiety and habit loops, and with that, a correlation to addictions. I‘d never thought of it like that before, and never really understood what is meant by “mindfulness” practice before and how that can help. I still have a long way to go, but I really appreciated this book.

Taking into account my own decades long mental health battle/journey, as well as my layman‘s research/curiosity, this was a good refresher for my🧠.

Backup research & communication to the reader was easy to follow along with & participate in.

This book is not about anxiety—it‘s about addiction. And if you have any history with disordered eating, do not read this book without checking for TW. To me, it felt like there were more mentions and stories of weight loss than anxiety. A disappointing and honestly damaging read for me.

On audio and he has a lovely voice to listen to. He talks about finding your triggers, acknowledging them, training your brain to see them and finding new ways to reward yourself in reaction to triggers. It‘s not complicated, it‘s a bit self deprecating (“oh that‘s just my brain being an a hole”) and seems very manageable. But you do have to do the work. I probably need a hard copy and new highlighters. I‘ve got this ⬆️ workbook from his website

Uncertainty feeds anxiety. No wonder everyone feels like they are on a hot mess express running on fumes. Sometimes my goal is to just feel flat because I‘m so tired of feeling. So far, I like his voice and I look forward to learning some things

Today‘s weather has been so perfect that I‘ve hung my hammock on my porch to get some research reading done. 😄 It‘s stayed in the upper 70s just about all day.

SexyCajun Absolutely true. I've been on Sertraline and Alprazolam extended release for over ten years because of the awful panic attacks. Those two meds keep me normal 🤷🏼‍♀️💜 3y
