Hey Lauralee 🤗
Thank you for the lovely #LittleChristmasSwap package! I am looking forward to reading this book next month. And I have already devoured a few chocolate cherries. They are like Black Forest cake (my favourite) in candy form.

Thank you @bookish_wookish for organising this fun swap. 💕

This was one of the first books recommended to me on Litsy. Keeper‘n Me by Richard Wagamese was one of my favourite books last year, and I have been wanting to read more books by indigenous authors.

Pickpick

This book would be perfect for a buddy-read or a book club. What I love is how seamlessly the author narrates each sister‘s story. Even the minor characters have memorable cameos. Also, I felt that there was a streak of indulgence for the bad guys.
This is one of those books that says so much in just one sentence. An example: Until the nail is hit, it doesn‘t believe in the hammer. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

marleed I read this in early 2021 and it‘s definitely stayed with me. My IRL bookclub allowed each member to submit 3 books for 2022 consideration. This was one my recommendations, but sadly was not chosen. But you and I know the mistake they made! 2w
BiblioLitten @marleed Oh definitely! What doesn‘t it have… history, politics, relationships, culture. I appreciate the editing because this book could also have dragged on for a bit. Do you have a favourite character? (edited) 2w
marleed @BiblioLitten Oh I never thought about it, maybe Minerva because there was so much to her story. I can‘t imagine being the first woman to graduate law school in DR only to have the certificate immediately stripped from you for rejecting the advances of an a**hat. 2w
BiblioLitten @marleed That made me livid too!! And some scenes were heart-wrenching, especially the ones with Patria and Mate. 2w

I feel bad for bailing. I was so impressed by the first page that I thought I would love the whole book but after a hundred pages or so it just kept spiralling around the same dialogues. In its defence I had just finished The Switch, which I loved, and I was not in the mood for another romance. Won‘t be going back to it later either. 🤷🏻‍♀️

suvata Don‘t feel bad. I finished it, but I think I only gave it 2-stars. It just wasn‘t my kind of book. I just saw an author interview with her and she is a very cool person which made me feel even worse that I couldn‘t get into her writing. 7mo

I‘d consider it an achievement if I can manage to read 10 pages these days. I couldn‘t resist picking this book set in #Syria. Such a beautiful cover too! I love the Arabic text shadowing the title. 💙

Ruthiella That is an eye catching cover! 😍 11mo

I‘m in the opposite state of a slump but that is usually the case in January (as is with resolutions) and I think what has helped me this time is giving in to my moods rather than following a structured reading like I did last year.

After watching a sad but brilliant movie, and finishing a heavy read this weekend, I need something lighter. Hoping this does the trick! 📚

Ruthiella What was the movie? 12mo
BiblioLitten @Ruthiella ‘A Peck on the Cheek‘ It‘s a Tamil movie on the civil war in Sri Lanka. I understand a bit of Tamil but the subtitles help. @batsy Are you familiar with this movie? It is apparently based on a short story. (edited) 12mo
batsy @BiblioLitten Yes, I've heard only good things about it and I've been told so many times to watch it ... I still haven't 😳 12mo

The Dry was the first book I stacked on my TBR list on Litsy. Now after three years, I have finally started reading it.

Reminded me of your latest post about getting to a book in about four years! 😁 @Tanisha_A

Ruthiella Coincidentally , The Dry was the subject of my very first Litsy post! 12mo
BiblioLitten @Ruthiella 😃 Did you like it? 12mo
Crazeedi This is a really good book 12mo

Ruthiella I liked it but didn‘t love it. However, I did like it enough to continue to read her books and the second and third books are really great. 😀 12mo
MsMelissa I read this one this year after letting it languish on my shelf for about three years, too. 12mo
Tanisha_A Hahahaha, so many like that 😬 12mo
mariaku21 Haha I just started reading my copy too! I swear mine has been glaring at me from the shelf these last 3 years 12mo

I‘m armchair travelling in the NYPL, and it‘s letting me visualise ‘the painted ceiling of a cloudy sky..., the Edward Laning murals depicting the history of the written word..., the view of the balcony from the foyer..., and the stacks.‘
🤩
Historical fiction, mystery of missing books, set in and around a library, two timelines... I‘m really enjoying this book. #currentlyreading #armchairtravel #historicalfiction #NY

Kristin_Reads When I read this novel I found the architectural digest tour of the NYPL on YouTube... it‘s great for armchair travel! 12mo
BiblioLitten @Kristin_Reads Great! I‘ll check it out. Thanks 😊 12mo

Mehso-so

As much as I love QE and all of the guys on in, I feel you can give this one a skip.
I felt the whole book could have been summed up as a newspaper article.

This Saturday calls for a short book and a quick breakfast because I have a busy day ahead. #booksbeforechores

The first page brings back fond memories of The Indian Coffee House... waiters with the elaborate red cummerbund and all.

Cathythoughts Strawberries on toast !!!! Well , that‘s a new one on me ! Looks good , I‘ll have to try it 😁 12mo
BiblioLitten @Cathythoughts It‘s good! I add a bit of Nutella on the toast too. 😊 I have seen variations where they add cream cheese on white bread, and then top it with strawberries. (edited) 12mo
Ruthiella I thought this book was pretty amazing. I love it when authors accomplish so much in so few pages! 😀 12mo

❄️The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. A close friend designed the hardcover and gifted it to me when she found out that I had lost my copy.

❄️The tagged book was my last read of 2020. I was daunted by the size and had expected it to be too YA. Instead it was fast-paced, and a great palate cleanser.

❄️I bailed on Crazy Rich Asians. I was left with less than a 100 pages but I couldn‘t go on. 😑
