This is the sequel to Finding Mansfield & I wish I had given it a miss. A pet peeve of mine is when an author writes a sequel that ignores their own character develop from an earlier book! In the first book, Aunt Nora (/Mrs. Norris) is a horrible person who is SO mean to Finley (/Fanny). But now I am supposed to find her empathetic & support her run for public office?? I spent the entire last book watching the relationship between Fin & Ollie ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) develop, but in the first chapter, nine months later, they're already broken up?? They do get together again by the end of the book but are only involved peripherally in the story, so it just felt like a little “shock twist“ so that Watson could set up these convoluted pseudo-love triangles between Oliver/Tate/Fin & Tate/Fin/Alexandra. It was SO annoying. On top of that, I didn't like a single person in this book. Tate is self-centered ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) & self-destructive, which is kind of the point, but I got really tired of watching him just go through the same exact cycle over & over, all the while dissing the people/family who are trying to reach out to him. (In fairness, I may be a little sensitive to that type of character considering my current personal circumstances...) I 100% did not even kind of ship him with Alex, who was also spoiled, whiny, & self-centered. Yes, she had a ⬇ 4y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) complicated childhood with parents who weren't great to her, but she used that as an excuse to basically be a bitch to literally everyone around her, including someone who had actually been incredibly good to her her entire life, & it's never really addressed. In the end, they just magically decide they should be together & I was NOT here for it. I really wish I had just bailed on this book but I kept hoping it was going to actually ⬇ 4y

TheAromaofBooks @TheSpineView @Cinfhen - I may have gotten carried away with my ranting 😂 Despite all my griping, I did decide to pick up the third & final book... I couldn't resist since it's supposed to be a riff on Austen's Emma! 4y
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - I was so proud of myself, too 😂 4y
