Tch, tch, sh, sh, tup, tup.Spend the day picking wild blueberries with Clarence and his grandmother. Meet ant, spider, and fox in a beautiful woodland andscape, the ancestral home of author and illustrator Julie Flett. This book is written in both Enlglish and Cree, in particular the n-dialect, also known as Swampy Cree from the Cumberland House area. "Wild Berries "is also available in the n-dialect Cree, from the Cross Lake, Norway House area, published by Simply Read Books."

Simple and quiet picture book with lovely detail. It points out the little things that a grandmother and her grandson notice while out on a walk to pick blueberries. Great detail in few words. Seamlessly includes Cree words.

Another great picture book from Julie Flett! The illustrations are gorgeous (of course). The story is a cute one about a boy and his grandmother picking blueberries. The use of Cree words is incredibly well done, and the extra language info was helpful and interesting. Highly recommended for all ages!

Litsy didn't have Julie Flett's Lii Yiiboo Nayaapiwak lii Swer: L'Alfabet Di Michif/Owls See Clearly At Night: A Michif Alphabet, so I tagged it as one of her other dual language books (And when I read the tag book, I will tag the other version they have in the system lol). This was an amazing and creative intro to Michif for all ages. I spent forever going through this and it is a literal alphabet book. Recommend for all.

Languages are precious; they capture the very essence of a culture. The exceptional night-sight of owls is akin to the insight that language offers in understanding a culture.

Not in Litsy database, this is another book by Julie Flett. An alphabet book in Michif language: Owls See Clearly at Night/Lii Yiiboo Nayaapiwak lii Swer. I‘ve opened the book to the page that features Alberta‘s provincial flower and added my own “ceinture flèchée” (finger woven sash) to the photo.

GatheringBooks i lovelovelove julie flett. stacking this one. 6y
Lindy @GatheringBooks Look for Owls See Clearly at Night in addition to Wild Berries. Both are fantastic. 6y

Today in Early Literacy Storytime we read and talked about Julie Flett's "Wild Berries" in celebration of Native American Heritage Month. We learned words in Cree, and counted with a few blueberry fingerplays!

I'm excited to read this one for storytime - a short, simple yet lovely story about a boy picking blueberries with his grandmother with Cree words woven in.

Multi-award-winning Cree-Metis picture book author/illustrator. Collage art melds nostalgia with crisply modern sensibility. Portrays traditional values within relatable context: grandmother & child spend a day picking blueberries. Invokes all 5 senses. A single word from each page is translated into Cree. Quiet. Beautifully constructed. #nativebooks #IndigenousVoices
