This is not for everyone as it deals with a group of strangers who want to end their lives and take a road trip to do so, but if that‘s not a trigger, this audio is really well done. I found it on a list of best audiobooks (it‘s full cast). I really appreciated the discussion around suicide: the various reasons, who gets to decide and judge the reasons. Why is this suicide illegal but that one isn‘t. There were laughs to be had as well.

TiredLibrarian I loved this book; glad I'm not alone - as you said, it isn't for everyone. 9mo

This is a crazy wild ride that may be triggering for some as it‘s about a group of strangers on a suicide mission. Each of them has either physical or mental issues that are revealed on this journey. But connections are made and isn‘t that what LIFE is really all about! Yes, it‘s bittersweet but lovely!

Ruthiella Is the author the same guy who produced the sci-fi TV show Babylon 5? 🤔 1y
Alfoster @Ruthiella Apparently yes! I had to Google it as I‘d never heard of it. Is it good? I‘ll watch if so! 1y
Ruthiella @Alfoster I haven‘t watched it since the ‘90s but I really liked it at the time. 1y
Alfoster @Ruthiella Thanks! I‘ll ck it out; think it‘s on Amazon Prime!🤞 1y
RamsFan1963 @Ruthiella The first season of Babylon 5 is average, but from the second season on it gets really really good. 1y

Sadly not for me. At all. I liked the sound of the unique premise, but I found it clunky and strangely shallow, which was a surprise. I usually love an epistolary novel but this just felt contrived. The MC was kind of insufferable, and the few characters I was drawn to, were not enough to save this one for me. I‘d hoped for more. Disappointed.

Mehso-so

This is between a so-so and a pan for me.

This book was hard in several ways. First, TW: the book deals with a group of people (12) who are solicited by an online ad to join a cross-country bus ride which will end in a collective suicide. Along the journey and for the price of the ride, they must upload journal entries relating their stories. Second, I didn‘t agree with a lot of the political ideals/posturing of the story, and the language 🔻

robinb (at least to me) was a bit much. Third, as the author is a successful screenwriter for movies and TV, this felt too much like a movie script to me (in instances I was reminded of The Breakfast Club and Thelma and Louise). And I wouldn‘t be surprised to see this show up on a movie screen. I think it would be catnip for Hollywood. 🔻 3y
robinb So while it really wasn‘t for me, it did have some thoughtful and often poignant moments as this group of strangers became sharers of secrets and souls. Some will get more out of this than I did, but just be aware that it‘s not all light-hearted material (as the cover suggests). Read with care. 2.75/5⭐️ 3y
DivineDiana Sounds quite shocking and twisted. 😳 3y
robinb @DivineDiana I wouldn‘t call it necessarily twisted because each member of the group has made their own decision about ending their lives. And as I said, some may care more for it than I did so I‘d definitely say it‘s a divisive story. It just bothered/disturbed me in a myriad of ways. 3y
