I adored this character-driven story, and the narration by the author was spectacular! I started this as a print book and just couldn‘t make myself focus on it. I switched to audio thinking that even if I didn‘t grow to love it I would at least have something decidedly NOT STRESSFUL to listen to over the holiday weekend.

Turned out to be a 5⭐️ delight!

A dying small town sheriff takes on a runaway young girl. This reads like a cup of hot chocolate in front of a fire. Lovable characters, baseball, and an abandoned mutt. The town is basically a southern Mayberry, but Winston is even more likeable than Andy Taylor. One of those books you don‘t want to end.

1. Tagged. I purchased a different book on Kindle (The Sacrifice of Lester Yates) and this came up as a similar title and it sounded good!

2. Currently, The Heavens May Fall, but I'm reading Tomorrow, and Tomorrow and Tomorrow right now and it's phenomenal!

If you need a haven from the strife that we can‘t seem to avoid these days, follow me to Moab, Florida in this charming novel. We know from the first page that Sheriff Browne is dying, but his journey is a wise one, and he‘s blessed to be surrounded by friends, even when they drive him crazy AND, we learn how the NY Dodgers are closer to god than, well, god. We also discover that families are built, not born and that love is eternal. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

PSA: Put this on your TBR. It‘s going to be one of my top three books for me this year and it doesn‘t seem to be getting much buzz. Our book club read it together...and, let‘s just say, there‘s not many books that we all enjoy...and this one was one of the few! Read it. You‘ll love it!

First of all, Dixie beer is my favorite so the mention of it made me smile. And I grew up Methodist in FL, so I knew I‘d like this story. Oh the imagery, describing FL‘s fall colors as “the entire spectrum of mildew” is hilariously spot on. I loved all of the baseball talk and how it shaped and brought together so many people . What a great tribute to this small town sheriff who was bigger than life. Book #54 in 2021

Well written...I liked the characters.

Probably wouldn't have picked this up if a patron hadn't recommended it to me, but it was a good read! The writing style wavered between "actually voicey" and "trying too hard to be folksy," imo, but the characters were so good, and the cult thing was an unexpected yet interesting plotline. #historicalfiction #gododgers
