We all know of Ellis Island, but do we really know what it was like and what went on?
THE NEXT SHIP HOME is an excellent inside look at Ellis Island, and with these wonderful characters makes it a read historical fiction fans won't want to miss.
Thumbs up to Ms. Webb for this marvelous book.

I learned a lot about Ellis island and immigration while reading. I was shocked to hear of the abuses that many of the immigrants endured by those who were supposed to help them by welcoming them to our country. I read alot of historical fiction. To be honest,I don‘t feel that this book stood out in any way from the others. While the book wasn‘t bad, the story seemed slow to me at times. All in all, I‘m glad that I read it as I found it educational
I loved this story of hope, triumph over trials. Alma and Francesca's stories told in alternating chapters and intertwining with each other are an important part of American history. These characters are true feminists of the early twentieth century, strong, determined, and brave!
Happy President‘s Day 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙 I‘m celebrating by doing laundry and cleaning the bathroom 😆 I finished this beautiful book today though! I love the books that have you guessing what‘s going to happen next. There were 100 pages left and I was so anxious to read how Alma and Francesca‘s stories were going to end. Worry not, the ending was perfect (though I wouldn‘t mind a sequel to see how Alma & Francesca are doing 😃)
Review is up on my blog. Check it out!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 is historical fiction but 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗯 tackles contemporary issues. An Italian immigrant & German-American Ellis Island matron become friends...& empowered. Corruption, workplace retaliation, sexual coercion/assault, prejudice, social status, & the American dream are compassionately examined. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed this one and learned things, the things I want from historical fiction. I did find the ending a bit rushed, but in spite of that there was enough there to make this a recommended pick. The author captures the immigrant journey and Ellis Island experience, the despair of the poor and the lack of women's and workers rights. She has woven in some real historical figures and related it all the news reports of the times. I gave it 3.75/5.
DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK!!
