How sad am I that the Murderbot story arc is over! I definitely see this whole series becoming one of my major comfort reads.

Did you guys know that this delicate, introspective poet who writes mostly about cultivating joy and gardening got his start in college basketball, thought about going the pro sports route, and wrote his 7th book entirely as an ode to Julius Erving?
I love being in Murderbot‘s world! I was a little thrown that this one skipped back in time, so if you‘re reading the series for the first time I might change up the order and read this as the 5th installment not the 6th.
I should‘ve had more faith in Martha Wells and trusted that I would enjoy this series just as much in novel length.
Gay did a such a good job in this volume of blending dreams and memories, and of letting his self conscious poetic voice take over just enough to build up complex layered emotions that we can recognize and experience with him, but that don‘t have simple names. His books may be titled gratitude, delight, joy, but he‘s writing about something less concrete. #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
#hyggehour #litsolace Currently curled up in my blanket nest with Ross Gay recovering from our bi-yearly experiment to see if humans can be convinced time is just a social construct. @AllDebooks @Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie @jenniferw88
I‘m grateful to #AAM and #bookspin for pushing me to finally read Jane Harper. She‘s been on my radar for years, but something in her book blurbs always left me wondering if she would actually be my style. It turns out I really enjoyed her dry humor, and thought Falk and the cast of surrounding characters were compelling. I did work out the major plot points ahead of the book, which never happens for me! But I‘m interested to read book 2.
Even as someone who reads poetry every day I don‘t find Adrianne Rich‘s work easy to parse. Her pieces are dense & rich & have new layers of meaning that reveal themselves with each subsequent reading. It was important to Rich for people to understand the progression of her work so each poem she published was dated & the editors of this collection really emphasized that. I made that progression my focus, but I know I‘ll go back to this & reread.
It wasn't as though the farm hadn't seen death before, and the blowflies didn't discriminate. #firstlinefridays @ShyBookOwl
Happy International Women‘s Day Litsy Fam! What have you read lately by inspiring women? #womensupportingwomen
Since I seem to be stuck on number 17, I thought it was time I did an update on my #bookchain progress so far while I wait around for a book of the perfect length to continue the chain. @TheAromaofBooks
The downside to not having a brain for numbers is I was getting super nervous about the punishing pace of this read, thinking there‘s no way I‘ll be able to keep this up all month, and it wasn‘t until I actually finished this week‘s section and actually saw the bookmark more than a third of the way through that I realized the other 4 sections were a completely manageable length 🤣🤣🤣🤦♀️ #sundaybuddyread
#NoPlaceLikeHolmes I don‘t think there‘s actually any rhyme or reason to which of the stories I‘ve read before. This turned out to be one of the ones that was totally new to me, and while I enjoyed both the surprise and the bizarreness of this one, I think on the whole I‘ve been preferring the experience of rereading. @dabbe @Cuilin
I‘ve been looking forward to Spin Day!!! The numbers picked an audiobook for my #bookspin this month, and I‘d already been planning to grab this on audio from Hoopla for #aam, and something from my living room bookshelf for my #doublespin so I went shelf shopping and found this volume of poetry I‘m super excited about! Thanks Sarah 🩷
#ReadAway2024 I‘m still plugging away at my Read From My Own Shelves goal, but I did more mood reading in February, most of which ended up being from Libby. I read 4 titles from my own shelves, 20% of this month‘s total reading, and fewer than the number of books I bought…
I had called upon my friend, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, one day in the autumn of last year and found him in deep conversation with a very stout, florid-faced, elderly gentleman with fiery red hair. #firstlinefridays @ShyBookOwl
Reading Mary Oliver is always a bit like coming home. My favorite thing about this was rereading the six essays in this that were reprinted from Winter Hours. I found rereading them in a different context fascinating. They took on a very slightly different cast surrounded by the new theme of this collection, while mostly retaining their individual characters, and gave me a lot to think about.

Mary Oliver is expanding my scientific vocabulary (which admittedly, wasn‘t all that impressive, but I‘m still loving these!)
One of my favorite reads in quite some time! I restricted myself to reading a year‘s worth of letters a day to try and get a sense of the actual time passing in their 20 year friendship and love affair. The window into the lives and minds of these remarkable women was so special, and the writing itself stunning!
Kitty is keeping my feet warm while I read the introduction to our new #sundaybuddyread tome during #hyggehour tonight.

In the 4th installment Murderbot meets back up with its original crew and continues to question the nature of its existence. I‘ve been loving these as novellas, and I think this is the last short installment, so we‘ll see if I like the story as much in long form going forward…
This did a great job of showing the ways Van Gogh and Gauguin were able to inspire, influence, learn from, teach, and compete with each other during the 9 weeks they lived together, and how it changed and informed each of their work during that period and also going forward. This interplay between artists is something I‘ve always been fascinated by, so I loved reading about this! BUT I found the writing style challenging. 👇🏼
I don‘t know about the rest of you, but I‘m definitely feeling ready to turn the page on February. Bring on the lottery! #bookspin #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks
Doyle really is the master of the short story and I‘m glad we‘ve switched to reading his short form work for now. This one was such a treat! 🕵🏻♂️ #noplacelikeholmes @dabbe @Cuilin
The 3rd installment wasn‘t my favorite to date, but it was definitely a lot of fun! And I found myself marveling that Wells was able to once again draw me in and get me immediately invested in a new cast of characters while still advancing Murderbot‘s main storyline all in the span of a short novella.
I‘m pretty sure this was going to be the month I didn‘t buy any books, but then I read the tagged book and had to own my own copy, and somehow all those other friends with really good deals made their way into my kart… 🙄 #bookmail #feedingtheaddiction
