This book tells the story of a cookie who does not like school very much because they do not think they are smart. One day, the teacher asks the class to create something original. Although the cookie is nervous, they share what they have created and it is a huge success. This book can lead to discussions about anxiety from school, having confidence in yourself, exploring the world around you,and believing that everyone is smart in their own ways.

“The Smart Cookie“ is a picture book that using a multitude of elements of design to create a composition which is lighthearted and humorous. For example, a mix of light pastels with vibrant tones allows readers to see the mix of emotions that the main character is feeling. Large, red text with punctuation shows the excitement in the main character's voice. The use of straight and curved lines allows the reader to see an emphasis on movement.

The smart cookie by Jory John is about a cookie that lives in a bakery and has a great life in a great community but does not always feel fulfilled. He meets a younger cookie that he mentors and motivates to be confident at school.
