Build-A-Book: A Prewriting Process | Erika Kelly
1 post | 1 read | 1 to read
Plotter? Pantser? It doesn't matter. No matter how you write, if you want to knock out a great first draft, then you need to develop the essential story elements first. Author Erika Kelly distills down the most important lessons learned from the great story analysts into this prewriting process to help create fully fleshed out characters and a plot map that'll track the story and relationship arcs. Never again will you have to stare at a blank page, wonder what scene to write next, or start revisions with no idea where to begin. This book will give you the building blocks you need to construct a fully developed, emotionally powerful story. And you'll do it better and faster than you ever have before.

A quick guide (only 52 pages & lots of white space) that covers the basic plot points on how she thinks the pre-writing process will help you write a better book. No new information & the info just wasn‘t that great.

She uses one of her own books as an example but calls it one title in one chapter but another title in a different chapter, which makes me question the value of her advice. (And neither title is listed on her GR.)

Andrew65 Sounds strange. 2y
wanderinglynn @Andrew65 it was. It was suggested to me by a writer (but one who self-publishes). Not to dismiss the self-published world, but . . . this book felt like a self-published, self-promotional book. Definitely not worth the few bucks I paid for it. There are better books on writing. 2y
