The Bright Side Running Club
The Bright Side Running Club: A novel of breast cancer, best friends, and jogging for your life. | Josie Lloyd
7 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
Josie Lloyds fearless novel is a tribute to the power of the human spirit in the face of hardship, based on the authors own experience with cancer and community. In the vein of Mary Ellen Taylor's Honeysuckle Season this amazing, breathtaking, and inspiring (Jenny Colgan) novel is full of hope and heart. When Keira first receives her breast cancer diagnosis, she never expects to end up joining a running group with three women shes only just met. Totally blind-sided, all she can think about is how she doesnt want to tell her family or step back from work. Nor does she want to be part of a group of fellow cancer patients. Cancer is not her club. And yet its running hot, sweaty, lycra-clad running in the company of brilliant, funny women all going through treatment that unexpectedly gives Keira the hope she so urgently needs. Because Keira will not be defined by the C-word. And now, with the Cancer Ladies Running Club cheering her on, she is going to reclaim everything: her family, her identity, and her life. One step at a time. Moving, uplifting and full of hope, this is a beautifully crafted novel about love, family and the power of finding your tribe.

Starting this one today! It‘s one of the books chosen for me by a friend for a challenge back in December.

Emotional, a few different plots, drawing on family and new friends through a shared diagnosis. I absolutely sobbed but knew one of the characters would likely not make it to the ending simply because of the cancer theme but still so motivating and personal. The medical information isn't glazed over and while I know private healthcare is vastly different from national healthcare in this book it was explained enough for this reader to understand.

I quite enjoyed this uplifting book about a group of women running through cancer.
The author got inspired by her own experience with cancer, which adds authenticity.
The chapters are short, and the different plots are entertaining. A heavy subject, but with a good dose of humor.

For a book about a woman struggling with cancer this book was a light read. I liked it but didn‘t love it because Keira was a bit too blind to the world around her occasionally making her seem self centered. So I struggled a bit liking her.

Thankful, this book made me feel thankful from start. Thankful for my body, my strength, my peculiar appreciation of life, especially mine. Thankful for having what I have & what I don't have too. This book makes you realize life from the other side of the highway. It slaps you in the face hard once, twice, & many times more, with the only purpose of giving you the chance to realize how good your life is. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Ellies_Books06 I haven't done the art yet of this review but want it to post it anyway because then I forget 😅 happy reading everyone! 💚 #TheBrightSideRunningClub Pub.Date: 08.Feb.2022 #ARCreads 3y
