Good Morning, I Love You
Good Morning, I Love You: Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Practices to Rewire Your Brain for Calm, Clarity, and Joy | Shauna Shapiro
4 posts | 3 read | 3 to read
Discover the Transformative Effects of Being Kind to Yourself This brilliant book offers us both the science and practice of how self-kindness is the secret sauce of fulfillment, transformation, and joy. Lorin Roche, meditation teacher and author of The Radiance Sutras Many of us yearn to feel a greater sense of inner calm, ease, joy, and purpose. We have tried meditation and found it too difficult. We judge ourselves for being no good at emptying our minds (as if one ever could) or compare ourselves with yogis who seem to have it all together. We live in a steady state of not good enough. It does not have to be this way. In Good Morning, I Love You, Dr. Shauna Shapiro brings alive the brain science behind why we feel the way we doabout ourselves, each other, and the worldand explains why we get stuck in thinking that doesnt serve us. It turns out that we are hardwired to be self-critical and negative! And this negativity is constantly undermining our experience of life. It is never too late to rewire your brain for positivityfor calm, clarity, and joy, writes Dr. Shapiro. I know this is possible because I experienced it. Best of all, you can begin wherever you are. In short, lively chapters laced with science, wisdom, and story, Shapiro, one of the leading scientists studying the effects of mindfulness on the brain, shows us that acting with kindness and compassion toward ourselves is the key. With her roadmap to guide you, including her signature Good Morning, I Love You practice, in which you deliberately greet yourself each day with these simple words, you can change your brains circuitry and steady yourself in feelings of deep calm, clarity, and joy. For good.

This was great to listen to, but some might want the book as she does exercises/practice. I grabbed this book cause I use her TedTalk "what you practice grows stronger" with clients.

an attitude of kindness and compassion
is the "secret sauce" of mindfulness

Intention directs the compass of our heart
Attention trains and stabilizes our mind
in the present moment

we must liberate ourselves
from the myth of perfection

what you practice grows stronger
What do you want to grow?

accepting pain, we reduce our suffering
accept the boulders of life

you are not a drop in the ocean
you are the entire ocean
in a drop

This was a book I didn‘t know I needed to read. Written plainly in an easy to understand style, this book was mind opening, well thought out and humorous at times. I‘ll definitely be looking into more titles regarding mindfulness. I really enjoyed how every point that was brought up in this book was backed up by science and scientific studies. First book finished from my #NewYearWhoDis list and it‘s a hit! #NYWD @monalyisha @lou.reads.a.lot

It was hard to narrow down, but I‘ve managed to pick some reads for #NewYearWhoDis 😁 I already owned Killers of the Flower Moon, Queen of the Tearling and The Martian. So I‘m taking it as a sign that now is the time to read them since they appeared on the list! I‘ve got the tagged book out from the library and have Still Life by Louise Penny on hold! Can‘t wait to get started! @lou.reads.a.lot @monalyisha

monalyisha Wow! I think your match of circumstance just might naturally be a perfect one! 🍀 2y
RainyDayReading @monalyisha I think you‘re right! There were a couple other books on their list that I‘d already read and enjoyed, and there‘s a book I put on my list that they were going to put on theirs! Don‘t think our impromptu match could have gone better if we tried! 😁 2y
