This 1950s America tale about the effects of a local writer, a small town & a book they think is written about them was a revelation. Though the premise seemed like Miss Buncle, this is different. It is darker but still small town odd/quirky. In the midst of drama, humor.
It gets to the heart of people being people and how small towns are special.

Loved it.

Huge thanks to @Jess_Read_This for gifting it!

imho, @LeahBergen needs this book.

LeahBergen Yes, I DEFINITELY need this book! 😍 2y
Jess_Read_This Yay!! I‘m so glad you liked it. I saw the Furrowedbrow blogspot fellow wasn‘t a fan. And I actually liked it for some of the reasons he disliked it. 2y

“People‘s people, only in a small town more so. She wrote about people”. 5⭐️

Faith Goodbind wrote about people. And the people of Two River Junction thought she was writing about them. They read the book and saw all their secrets laid bare. The entire town is in an uproar and Faith has no idea. We see the fallout, redemption, and recovery. There is also humor to balance out some of the seriousness. Highly recommend!

Jess_Read_This @elkeOriginal Don‘t read what I posted about it in the club notes. Very spoilery! I tried to write big warnings too. I couldn‘t put it down yesterday! Plus I refused to do any laundry or chores 😂 (edited) 2y

My first buddy read of 2022. It‘s about a young author who has written a book about people in a small town. When people in her town read the novel they begin to identify themselves as the leading characters and “hidden tensions erupt from beneath the surface of village life”. It sounds a bit “Miss Buncle-esque” to me? I could be entirely wrong in my first impression from the book flap.

LeahBergen Miss Buncle‘s Book is a favourite of mine! I can‘t wait to hear what you think of this one (and if I should buy it 😆). 2y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I‘m about 77 pages into it. I‘m liking it so far! Though, I wouldn‘t say it‘s like Miss Buncle‘s Book. The author of the book that has the town in an uproar didn‘t intentionally write it with the townspeople in mind. They are finding themselves in it. Also, this novel doesn‘t have that cozy sort of feeling Buncle gave me. It‘s more serious in nature and concept. But I‘m still very much enjoying it. But not at all like Buncle. (edited) 2y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I think my mind made the comparison when I heard the premise was about a book written in a small town and the townspeople get in an uproar thinking it‘s about them. 2y

LeahBergen Thanks for the update! The coziness of Miss Buncle really adds to the enjoyment of it, doesn‘t it? I‘ll definitely keep this one on my radar, though! 2y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I finished it last night and absolutely loved it. It ended up being rather funny along with serious tones. There are some very serious themes in the townspeople seeing themselves- TW alluding to child sexual molestation history, suicide. Overall, I was impressed with the writing and the story. I‘d definitely recommend. Just wouldn‘t call it cozy, per se. And that is an nice element to have in a book too. (edited) 2y
LeahBergen You‘ve totally convinced me now that you say there‘s a bit of humour! Thanks. 👏🏻 2y
Jess_Read_This @LeahBergen I enjoyed it so much, I splurged on another Truitt Yenni book! (edited) 2y
