The Investigator | John Sandford

Letty Davenport, the brilliant and tenacious adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport, takes the investigative reins in the newest thriller from #1 bestselling author John Sandford. By age twenty-four, Letty Davenport has seen more action and uncovered more secrets than many law enforcement professionals. Now a recent Stanford grad with a master's in economics, she's restless and bored in a desk job for U.S. Senator Colles. Letty's ready to quit, but her skills have impressed Colles, and he offers her a carrot: feet-on-the-ground investigative work, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security. Several oil companies in Texas have reported thefts of crude, Colles tells her. He isn't so much concerned with the oil as he is with the money: who is selling the oil, and what are they doing with the profits? Rumor has it that a fairly ugly militia group--led by a woman known only as Lorelai--might be involved. Colles wants to know if the money is going to them, and if so, what they're planning. Letty is partnered with a DHS investigator, John Kaiser, and they head to Texas. When the case quicky turns deadly, they know they're on the track of something bigger. Lorelai and her group have set in motion an explosive plan . . . and the clock is ticking down.

This was my first John Sandford, placing a hold despite 197 requests in front of me because I was curious about the NY Times #1 status. John builds interesting characters. This is the first in a series and there‘s a backstory I never read. This one was Texas, big trucks, big guns, homegrown militia and caravans of immigrants. I‘d have preferred Lettie in a different storyline, but that‘s on me not the author.

KristiAhlers My husband is a John Sanford Junky. The man is positively useless the day his new books come out. I can‘t fuss at him though I‘m the same way when one of my favorite authors have a new release 2y
KristiAhlers Yeah this is Lucas‘s step daughter or something. You‘ll want to read the Prey novels so you understand the dynamics there easier. I haven‘t read them but the hubby gushes so it‘s almost like I have 🤣 2y
marleed @KristiAhlers That her father had a huge backstory was obvious here but I thought the author did a good job at allowing the reader start here for the daughter‘s grown-up story. Cool that your hubby has a an author to look forward to. I‘m hoping to resist this author‘s other works because I‘m already trying to read the canon of several authors‘ works and boy is that a rabbit hole! So many books on my growing TBR! 2y

Don't let my slow pace discourage you-this was a really good book! I have been struggling to actually sit and read-I've been doing a lot of TV watching here lately. So Sunday, I sat and read most of the day and it was glorious!

I really enjoyed Letty and her working relationship with Kaiser. I hope Kaiser makes an appearance in the next Letty book. Cannot wait for the next book as it was left on a bit of a cliffhanger!

I thoroughly loved The Investigator! It is the first book in the new Letty Davenport series. Letty Davenport is the adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport. She is a real go getter, tough as nails, extremely smart, witty and makes very ballsy decisions. Her sidekick, Kaiser, keeps her grounded and focused. They are sent on a mission to investigate thefts of oil in a small Texas town. Along the way they run into a situation with a Militia group.

Book group tonight was at Flat Top grill. Flat Top is at the mall. Guess what else is at the msll? B&N. It‘s the only reason I go to the mall. Well, that and Flat Top. So here‘s my haul tonight. Not pictured; my leftovers, which should feed me at work for the next 2 days….
