Really good, just felt like I had already read it because it was so similar to Hatchet but in a different setting. The end is wide open for a follow up- wonder if that was the intent but Mr. Paulsen died before it happened.

A great narrative, this novel tells a survival story about a young boy named Leif. When a plague infects his fishing camp, he escapes in a cedar canoe and paddles northward for the adventures of a lifetime 🛶

Survival stories were some of my favorites as a kid—Island of the Blue Dolphins, My Side of the Mountain, Hatchet. Paulsen was a master of this type of tale. This novel, published posthumously earlier this year, has echoes of a Norse saga. Really enjoyable listen, narrated by JD Jackson.
