The Villa
The Villa: An absolutely gripping family drama packed with secrets and lies | Clare Boyd
1 post | 1 read
Two weeks in a stunning villa in the South of France was supposed to heal the rifts in this fractured family. Flaky croissants and rich black coffee every morning before long days by the sparkling pool. Balmy candlelit dinners once the kids have gone to bed. But Nora is shaking as she gathers her family around the large oak table on the terrace at the front of the villa. Her two daughters eye her suspiciously as she tops up her wine and clears her throat to speak. But when she opens her mouth, the secret Nora came here to tell won’t come out… An addictive page-turner about motherhood at its best, and its worst, and the lies we tell to protect the ones we love. Anyone who adores Liane Moriarty, Jodi Picoult and Kerry Fisher will stay up all night reading. Everyone is talking about Clare Boyd: ‘Just wow!… One of the best books I've ever read… Not to be missed!’ Goodreads reviewer, 5 stars ‘Extremely addictive… I was flipping pages until early in the morning.’ bookworm86, 5 stars ‘Gripping and unputdownable! I was completely consumed… could not put it down. Totally intriguing and addictive... A real “one more chapter” book… Kept me reading late into the night.’ SIBZZREADS, 5 stars

I do not usually post negative reviews because I respect how hard it is to write a book. However, I received this via NetGalley so here goes; a matriarch spends two weeks with her family at a villa in France. Secrets are revealed. None of the adult characters are likeable. The story and revelations felt strained. I was relieved when this was over. This one comes out Mar 18/22. Thanks to @Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
