My parents are from the region of southern New Jersey famous for the Jersey Devil. My family lived there when I was in 2nd and 3rd grades. I was terrified to go into the woods, afraid that the Jersey Devil might grab me.
My hometown of West Milford was mentioned four times in this book. That explains a lot.
