Take a night to marvel at the cosmos and contemplate the unknown. Here are some tips to make the most of your stargazing experience.
* Choose an open area with a low horizon and away from city lights.
* A higher elevation is best.
Go out when the weather is clear.⬇️
TheBookHippie ⬆️ Take note of the lunar phase. You can see more stars when it's a new or crescent moon.
Bundle up! Campfires are great but will add light pollution when you are trying to view the night sky.⬇️
TheBookHippie ⬆️ Let your eyes adjust to the darkness.
Use binoculars to bring the stars a bit closer.
Don't let your smartphone do all the thinking:
Bring a compass and a planisphere to connect with nature in a hands- on way.⬇️

Catsandbooks I like moths. They're just nighttime butterflies lol 4w
TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks I love them too! 4w
dabbe If all her books were written like that, I wouldn't be afraid of Virginia Woolf. 🤩 4w

KadaGul I don't think 🤔 we appreciate the sky 🌌 enough. For Chicagoans, we only get to appreciate them from May to October. So, I try not to miss any chance I get. Star 💫 Gazing is a therapy in itself. Just looking 👀 up in the 🌌 is so therapeutically. (edited) 3w

Times of Night🌌🌠
When the sun has gone just below the horizon, yet stll illuminates the sky, often with a wash of strange and beautiful colors.
The darkest phase of the evening twilight just before full night sets in.
Halfway between sunset and sunrise, the transition point when today becomes tomorrow
Beginning at the first light of morning and ending when the sun breaks the horizon.

TheBookHippie When twilight drops her curtain down And pins it with a star Remember that you have a friend Though she may wander far.

#litsolace Nighttime

The night is a muse. ..with one slow and quiet movement, night drapes her shadowy cape over the land. Everything seems to stand still, and what remains is vastly different than what the sun had once exposed. The obligations of the day are put to rest, and feelings of possibility emerge for those who choose to venture into darkness.

TheBookHippie ⬆️ With a perfume of dewy grass and brisk air, night draws us out into her fleeting, secret world. She offers us her hiding place, and here we are safe to share our secrets, fears, and stories. Time seems to linger as lines between worlds begin to blur. What is real?
What is a dream?⬇️
TheBookHippie ⬆️ It becomes easy, by night, to fall into this altered state, letting our imaginations run wild.
Night becomes a muse, weaving constellations through her coal black hair. You stand in awe, captivated by her spell.💜💙🖤

While my spouse is off seeing some great shows in Stratford, Ontario with his best friend, I‘m taking the opportunity to hygge as much as possible and treated myself to these. Thanks for always putting things on my radar to keep me calm, reflective, and peaceful, Christine.

#litsolace Earth friendly tip 🌏🌍🌎

Not only can light pollution hinder your ability to see the Milky Way, but it can also impact wildlife migration, nocturnal pollinators, and hunan health. Use the tips below to preserve darkness for the benefit of every creature on the planet.

Use light only when necessary.

Try to keep your inside lights dim and draw the curtains.

Use motion-sensor lighting outdoors.

TheBookHippie ⬆️ Shield all outdoor lighting structures, making sure they point downward.
Use dimmable "warm white" LEDS energy and light pollution. ?

Catsandbooks About a month or so ago our street lights got changed from the warm yellow light to the bright white light and I hate it. They are so obnoxiously bright it seems like there's stadium lights outside. 😩 1mo

TheBookHippie @Catsandbooks 🫣😵‍💫 ughhh 1mo
julieclair Your comment about migrating animals is so true. It is sea turtle nesting season here, and there are VERY strictly enforced laws that no beachfront homes can have outside lights on at night. When the baby turtles hatch, they use the moon‘s light shimmering on the ocean to guide them to the water. If they see a beach house light on, they will often head that way instead, and never make it to the water. It‘s really sad. 1mo

Delights of Night:

A deep velvet sky
A whip-poor-wills song
Bare feet and dew-kissed grass
The faint whistle of a train in the distance
The hush of a quiet town
Sturdy cattails by the creek
The golden harvest moon
Honeysuckle outside your open window
A garden toad
Tall grass in the breeze
The moon's reflection on a summer lake
2am. conversations on the porch
Reading by candlelight
The sweet smell of June
A succulent plum

TheBookHippie ⬆️ White flowers against a darkened sky
Nightingale on the fence post
Tiny white moths dancing
A black cloud of starlings.
Knowing that most people are asleep
