The Tunisian Crochet Handbook: A Beginner's Guide | Toni Lipsey
2 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
From fiber artist Toni Lipsey of TL Yarn Craft, an introduction to the craft of Tunisian crocheta unique crochet style that looks more like knittingwith 20 projects for beginners There are hundreds of books that explore traditional crochet, but there are few that reference the concept of Tunisian crochet or present it in a modern, approachable way. The Tunisian Crochet Handbook introduces this fascinating and rewarding technique with a wide array of stitches and design possibilities. The goal of this book is to guide crocheters step-by-step through Tunisian crochet, starting with tools and yarns, transitioning into how-tos and stitches, and finishing with easy but engaging patterns. The book includes instructional sections and patterns, complete with the necessary schematics and styled, chic photographs. Every shawl, garment, and accessory featured takes makers beyond the basics, introducing new stitches to expand their skill sets. In this way, author Toni Lipsey is reintroducing crochet and encouraging makers to explore the craft further with each new design. Crochet continues to grow in popularity, and this guidebook offers a new take on the timeless classic, one that readers wont be able to find anywhere else.

This is a wonderful introduction to Tunisian Crochet. Her videos on YouTube complement it perfectly. When in doubt, she‘s also made a video so you can see exactly how to do it. If you like crochet, but want to try something a little different, this is the book for you. Also, check out TL Yarn Crafts on YouTube. Her videos are so relaxing and encouraging, plus she‘s well caffeinated!

Sace I‘ve tried Tunisian crochet and it always curls so badly. I think my tension is too tight. 😢 4w
julesG You've mentioned this book at the right time, I just bought some Tunisian crochet hooks to get started. 4w

GingerAntics @Sace she actually talks about that in some of her videos. It‘s actually how it naturally is. Blocking and/or adding a crochet border stops the curl. It‘s because the simple stitch is always pulling from the front. It‘s natural and no big deal. 4w
GingerAntics @julesG wow! I highly recommend her YouTube videos, too. You will be making amazing things in no time. 4w
AnnCrystal I tried this style of crochet this weekend, but I kept goofing 😂. I undid the working and restarted my project 😉👍🏼💝. I will give it a try again... 4w
GingerAntics @AnnCrystal I can‘t wait to see what you come up with! 4w
AnnCrystal @GingerAntics 🥰👌🏼💝💝💝. 4w
AlaSkaat This is helpful. I just started crocheting. I‘m making a small blanket and so far it‘s my 16th try 😂 I‘m doing the Block stitch and wish I saw her video on it, her DC foundation chain looks sooo much easier! The foundation/first row alone took me multiple tries 1w

GingerAntics @AnnCrystal it really is. This is a fun little introduction to Tunisian crochet, which I‘m quickly falling in love with. I feel like it‘s easier (for me at least) than traditional crochet. 1mo
GingerAntics @AnnCrystal the happy hooker keeps popping up… have you read it? I‘m not sure if it‘s what I‘m really looking for. (edited) 1mo
