My goal is to finish both of these by Sunday night. I'm about 1/2 through Mickey 7 and I have about 100 pages left on Way Station. Easy Peasy.

This was alright…. I enjoyed his previous book more, but the verse didn‘t always work for me here. I also felt like there wasn‘t enough of K- too much left out of his story, so he ended up flat which is unfortunate. Loved Fin, but then that got going a little too fast…. Oh well. Can‘t love ‘em all #ispybingo: purple clothing
Dean Atta‘s LGBTQ+ YA novel frames a coming-of-age story within a romance to interesting effect. The economy of Atta‘s verse format works really well to highlight the emotional state of the characters and the gulf between them and Atta sensitively handles the difficulties of being gay within some communities. That said, Mack‘s economic privilege and the disparity between him and K never gets called on and the ending does one boy a disservice.
I really enjoyed this book. It gave me the perspective of just how hard LGBTQ+ community have it and trying to come out to the people they know. The fear of being judged or criticized for who they are. This was an easy read and I really enjoyed it. It dealt with two guys one who is openly gay and another one who isn‘t ready to come out just yet. The dealing with school and families. And how being somebody secret can be really hard mentally.
Some novels in verse, I like listening to the audio, but Dean Atta's work often does such interesting things visually, that I enjoy the text. This story of a teen who falls in love with an only partially out classmate and then goes to Scotland where he meets a wildly out teen and has to decide what he wants, is great. For #RippedBodiceBingo, can be used for bicycle and architect.
