This book nicely combines 2 of my recent favourite non-fic genres - travel & food! And I absolutely loved it! Felicity Cloake is just so fun & unpretentious & her writing is quirky & amusing that I was entertained & educated in the most delightful manner. Her love of food is a joy, though probably more accurately described as a love of eating, which is just so refreshing. Fascinating from start to finish, it even has recipes!

Started this one last night, think I'm going to like it.

Oh, and I'm brown sauce for bacon or fried egg butties, red sauce for fish & chips and burgers.

MrT Both on the same plate 😋 10mo

I have no idea what compelled me to purchase this and read it immediately (perhaps a craving for breakfast?). Cloake travels the UK via bicycle to discover what constitutes a “proper” breakfast. This was easy to dip into first thing in the morning and last thing at night and for the record, hot sauce is the answer to her question. Non-meat eaters should steer clear.

RaeLovesToRead Maybe it's the UK calling to you....😁 Have you thought about joining the Gladstone's trip? I'm sure you'll be able to find a greasy Full English somewhere in the vicinity.... (Although the closet I've come this month is microwaveable haggis with ketchup) 13mo
MicheleinPhilly @RaeLovesToRead 🤢 I hope you were desperate. I have been talking to Helen about it. I have to investigate how much of a hassle it would be for me to get there. We used to have daily, direct flights to Manchester but Covid ruined that. 😒 13mo
RaeLovesToRead Aww, well would be awesome if you could make it, but I've never left Europe so I'm not much help when it comes to travel 😅 Still need to make my catsoflitsy tour of the US happen! Just need to find a) a ton of money, and b) a willing chauffeur! 13mo

Susanita You have to come so I won‘t be the token American 🤩 13mo
MicheleinPhilly @Susanita Do you fly into London when you go? I typically try to book straight shot flights as I hate layovers. 13mo
Susanita I plan to fly into London and spend a day or two in Bath first. Last year I tried to connect to Manchester, and it was a complete cluster cuss. 13mo
RaeLovesToRead You can get from London to Manchester fairly easily by train too! 13mo
squirrelbrain Have you read her croissant one? I loved it! 13mo
squirrelbrain Do Aer Lingus fly to Philly? You could fly via Dublin if they do - might be easier than London. 13mo
MicheleinPhilly @squirrelbrain I have not but I may have to check it out! Aer Lingus does fly direct to Dublin from Philly so I may explore that option. 13mo

So I found this book hiding on my daughter's bookshelf and I just don't know how it got there! There's absolutely no chance it caught my eye on my morning supermarket run. There's no way I just couldn't resist and slipped it in my basket. I totally did not buy it despite being on a book buying ban. No, it was not me.

Honest 😈

Maria514626 Oh that looks fun! There must be someone sneaking around and putting random things in shoppers‘ baskets. Did you talk to the store about that? 😆 2y
TEArificbooks This book keeps popping up in all my book related social media. Definitely trending. I have never heard of brown sauce. 2y
AlaMich Are beans on toast in there? That is a dish I will never understand. 2y
shanaqui Ketchup aaaaall the way! 2y

This months surprise book subscription is spot on! I followed her travels around Britain on bicycle eating breakfast last year on Instagram- so keen to revisit those images through words! And I LOVE going out for breakfast- it‘s one of my favourite things to do!

Mitch Ps… We‘re a very divided household. I‘m red - Mr K is brown! 2y
BayouGirl85 What book subscription is this? 2y
Mitch @BayouGirl85 It‘s from Mr Bs in Bath - you answer lots of questions and then every month they send you a hand picked book just for you. They always make fantastic choices. It‘s been a great subscription https://mrbsemporium.com/gifts/#reading-subscriptions 2y

Maria514626 Me too! I don‘t know why, but I‘d go out for one big breakfast than four dinners or lunches. 2y
