A Sentimental Education
A Sentimental Education | Hannah McGregor
3 posts | 2 read | 7 to read
How do you tell the story of a feminist education, when the work of feminism can never be perfected or completed? Hannah McGregor, the podcaster behind Witch, Please and Secret Feminist Agenda, explores what podcasting has taught her about doing feminist scholarship not as a methodology but as a way of life.

A series of personal & academic essays examining everything from the claim that reading makes you more empathetic to the expert nature of seemingly natural storytelling.

McGregor is a genuine delight. Her voice is powerful & personable as in her podcasts (Oh Witch, Please & Secret Feminist Agenda), even as she interrogates her own privileges & internal biases. I‘ll need to buy a physical copy to highlight, I made almost a dozen notes. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

Essays from analyzing the politics of whiteness in beloved classics such as Anne of Green Gables to discussing the mechanics of podcasting and how it engenders intimacy and authenticity. The book is a master class in the seamless integration of tones, going from formal citations of Sara Ahmed to sentences like "Frankly, podcasting made me into a real hard-line bitch about open access". It made me laugh and cry as well as think and reflect deeply.

Linsy I'm so excited to read this one! I love her!!! 2y
