The living cannot be allowed to infect the dead. Adam Binder has lost what matters most to him. Having finally learned the true identity of the warlock preying on his family, what was supposed to be a final confrontation with the fiend instead became a trap that sent Adams beloved Vicente into the realm of the dead, where none living are meant to be. Bound by debt, oath, and love, Adam blazes his own trail into the underworld to get Vicente back, and to end the threat of the warlock once and for all. But the road to hell is paved with far more than good intentions. Demons are hungry, and ghosts are relentless, and what awaits Adam in the underworld is nothing he is prepared to face. If that werent enough, Adam has one more thing he must do if he and Vicente are to return to the world of the living: find the lost heart of Death herself.

My husband and and I went for a drive just to get out of the house and to listen to more of Deadbeat Druid. When the sun wasn‘t so high, I went for a walk and continued to be annoyed by Maggie in At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities. The other character, Ava, makes me sad. She has epilepsy, and her parents raised her to be fearful of doing anything risky because she might have a seizure. My parents encouraged me to do things. #audiowalk

Pickpick

If there‘s a cozy book about death, underworld, soul-sucking demons, murder, and abuse, this is it. Or, one could say instead, this is a book about healing.

Despite the heavy subject matter, this volume is surprisingly uplifting. It‘s more focused on characterization than plot, since the setting is of the dream-like, surreal variety. Usually I dislike that, but this time the POVs were grounded enough for it not to bother me.

Adam Binder has the toughest job ahead of him. Journey into the underworld to rescue what‘s been lost, but also keep his tag along brother and teenage elf alive at the same time.

I really do like the characters in this, even when I strongly disagree with their actions. The world building of the underworld was great, & I loved the exploration of the importance of painful memories. The ending felt a bit rushed, like a new idea added on. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

I really enjoyed this satisfying conclusion to Adam Binder‘s story. Slayton does an excellent job of crafting an engaging and thoroughly entertaining story. There were a few things that felt held back on such as everything that happened with Vran, but it didn‘t feel underdeveloped, feeling instead like it‘ll come up later. #LGBTQ #Fantasy #ColoradoAuthor

Best one yet. Loved the conclusion to this trilogy. And Michael David Axtell did an excellent job with the audiobook narration!
