#DannyBoy not being a jerk for once, in lieu of a pic of this audiobook.

Fascinating and kind of terrifying look at the Dominionist movement in Christian America. I would love an update that covers the intervening 15-ish years.

We drove to Dallas after Christmas and there‘s a stretch of I-20 with billboards spouting this kind of garbage (abolish income tax/teacher unions/social security; bring back Yahwuh). Frightening.

“The Bible was not the literal word of God. It was not a self help manual that could predict the future. It did not tell us how to vote...It was a book written by a series of ancient writers, certainly fallible and at times at odd with each other...we took the Bible seriously and therefore could not take it literally”

These were my weekend reads, but I didn't get as much time in as I hoped. AMERICAN FASCISTS is so validating right now, and ELEANOR OLIPHANT is interesting because it's going places I didn't expect. Hope to finish these by the end of the month!

Y‘all, we are in deep shit. Finishing this book on the day the news is reporting the hundreds of children “missing” as parents that came here seeking asylum are looking for them. Hedges wrote this in 2007 and predicted a lot of what is happening now. The reality is that some people will not survive this administration and those that will, won‘t survive unscathed. I will not dialogue with the Christian Right and I will not intellectualize racism.

Notafraidofwords @ReadingEnvy have you read this ? 7y

rjsthumbelina Sounds good. Since it was written 10 years ago, did it feel dated at all? Seems like the fascist right has only gotten more powerful since then 7y
Notafraidofwords @rjsthumbelina well yeah In a scary way. For example the Devos family has just gotten stronger. 7y
EricQiao What ever happened to separation of church and state? I was also shocked to learn that Fox News has more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined. Scary indeed. 6y
Notafraidofwords @EricQiao this book sort of details how that happened. 6y
