This song has a grace notea tiny note that's there for embellishmentbut can easily be ignored, not played.Tonight, I add it in -just because. We can all do with an extra noteof grace.Grace Dalfinch is a talented violinist who longs to play contemporary music in bars but whose mother forbids her. James Crux is an aspiring street artist who promised his dad that he wouldn't paint in public until he's eighteen and legal. When Crux witnesses Grace's impromptu performance on a rush-hour tram, he's inspired to paint her and her violin on a not-so-legal wall, and when Grace stumbles across her portrait in a Melbourne alley by an anonymous street artist, she sets out to find its creator. Grace Notes is a debut contemporary young adult verse novel, set in the most locked-down city in the world - Melbourne, 2020. It's a love story, at its heart, but it's also a book about young people using art to make sense of the world around them, and to shape it too. It's for fans of Cath Crowley's Graffiti Moon, and verse novels like Pip Harry's Are You There Buddha?

This is a collection of poetry about the Irish Pirate Queen Grace O‘Malley. Liston has two types of poems in this collection. The first is a compositional poem meant to be a fragment from Grace‘s life. The second type is a ‘rescued poem‘. For these she has two source texts about Grace and uses the words to create a new poem. These ones are less explicitly about Grace‘s life but follow the themes of her life. i.z.booknook (1) I really enjoyed this collection. So much of Grace‘s historical memory is preserved through poetry so it is nice that that tradition is continued here. Something about her legend lends itself to poetry. Liston did a beautiful job of recreating the emotion and atmosphere of the tales. 2w
i.z.booknook (2) They‘re organised chronologically too so you truly feel like you‘ve been on the emotional journey of her life. This collection is clearly thoroughly researched too and it‘s nice that Liston has drawn in other sources on Grace to recreate her memory. Really enjoyed this. 2w

Lovely #loveOzYA romance set in Melbourne right at the beginning of 2020 #covid #lockdown this brought back memories but I wasn‘t saddened. It was more nostalgic, being reminded of things I had forgotten. Lovely MCs. Art is important, being creative stirs the soul, and money isn‘t everything. #preview #debutnovel #feb2023
