I loved Profile K by this same author so bought this, a previous novel, at the Crimewriting Festival where I saw her speak.

I‘ve realised that my issue is that I‘m not a huge fan of ‘locked room‘ mysteries / crime - they‘re not expansive / wide- ranging / as full of opportunities for me.

That said, I did enjoy this one for the most part and at least I‘ve learned what style of crime I like. 🤪

BarbaraBB Great review. Locked room is not my favorite genre either (thinking of the tagged one, which I hated, and of No Exit which I didn‘t like much either) but at least this one got a pick from you! 2mo
Leniverse I love locked room mysteries if they are clever enough that I can't work them out but if I look back I realise all the clues were there. 2mo
Cathythoughts I‘m not a fan of the locked room mystery either Helen. But I love a good literary thriller 👍🏻 2mo
squirrelbrain Yeah, I don‘t think this one is particularly literary @Cathythoughts 🤷‍♀️ 2mo

This was a pretty good book. A profiler, Dr. Connie Woolwine (who has been in other books by Fields) and her partner, a former detective, go undercover in the highest-security prison for the criminally insane. They‘re there to discover who killed one of the nurses and cut out her baby and kidnapped her. It‘s a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end, trying to figure out who among these people perpetrated the crime.

Even though the last book I read by this author really upset me, I decided to give this book a chance. It has a character in it who‘s been in a few other books. “They‘re locked up for your safety. Now, you‘re locked in with them. How do you find a murderer in a prison full of killers?”

Book 165📚 4.2⭐️

I got total Shutter Island vibes from this book from the get go. It is one TWISTED web…

I had my speculations.

Fields did a amazing job with this one. I love a island mystery!

It could be a bit gruesome for some though. TW - murder & stolen baby

Super violent and disturbing. Wouldn‘t necessarily say it was predictable, but the ending wasn‘t entirely shocking for sure! Moves fast enough to keep you reading for sure.
