6 posts | 7 read | 2 to read
A wealthy couple ends up murdered in the nicest part of town in this compulsively readable, page-turning thriller from M. T. Edvardsson, The Woman Inside. Bill Olsson, recently widowed, is desperate to provide for his daughter, Sally. Struggling to pay rent, he welcomes a lodger into their home: Karla, a law student and aspiring judge, who works as a housekeeper to make ends meet. Her clients are the Rytters, an incredibly wealthy couple who hide behind closed doors. The wife is ill and hasn’t left the house in months. The husband is controlling and obsessive. Is he just a worried husband, concerned for his wife’s health? Or is there something more sinister at play? As Bill’s situation becomes more dire, Karla is forced to make a difficult choice. And when the Rytters wind up dead, and Karla is pulled in for questioning, she’s made to defend some parts of her past she’d rather not revisit. Every person in The Woman Inside is hiding something, but could any of them really have been driven to kill?

This took me some time to get invested, it was a slow build and in my opinion took longer than needed to come to a conclusion. I don‘t struggle with books that have unlikeable characters and there were plenty in this story. In addition it has you reflect on what true justice really is as you read.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Celadon Books, and the author for an ARC in return for my honest review.

Thank you to Celadon Books and BookishFirst for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

The Woman Inside by M. T. Edvardsson is the newest domestic thriller in translation from an accomplished author. The story revolves around a cast of characters, including Bill and Karla. Bill starts renting part of his home to Karla, a lodger who works as a housekeeper to the Rytters, a wealthy couple who may be hiding secrets...

This is a slow build suspense novel and is not a good choice if you want a lot of action. If, however, you are okay with the slower pace, this is a good crime story complete with flawed characters. It also does a great job of posing morality questions as those characters find themselves in difficult situations. I wasn't thrilled with the ending as it felt a bit abrupt, but still enjoyed the book. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. 3.75/5 stars

While I enjoyed The Woman Inside, it was such a slow build, making it hard to get into the story. Using multiple narrators and short chapters to tell the events, suspense was created that, once things started really going, made it difficult to put the book down, but getting to that point took some time. The ending was a little flat for me however. I had most of what happened figured out rather early on and it seemed a abrupt. I wanted more.

I will begin by saying that the cover was what caught my attention. This was a fast read also. I do like the different characters points of views. Sometimes when authors have different character points of view it can be too overwhelming but I didn‘t feel that with this book. The characters were relatable. The story is about a wealthy couple that was murdered and I enjoyed how the author tied the POV characters to the couple and to one another.

I loved this one! Eight people (2 couples, a housecleaner, and an 8-year-old girl). Sounds simple, right? Hardly! Blackmail, extortion, and basically mayhem abound in this thriller that I raced through! Sooo good!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
