Honey, Baby, Mine
Honey, Baby, Mine: A Mother and Daughter Talk Life, Death, Love (and Banana Pudding) | Laura Dern, Diane Ladd
5 posts | 4 read | 7 to read
A collection of deeply personal conversations from award-winning actress and activist Laura Dern and the woman she admires most, her motherlegendary actress Diane Ladd. What happens when we are brave enough to speak our truths to the ones we love the most? Laura Dern and Diane Ladd always had a close relationship, but the stakes were raised when Diane developed a sudden life-threatening illness. Dianes doctor prescribed long walks to build back her lung capacity. The exertion was challenging, and Laura soon learned the best way to distract her mom was to get her talking and telling stories. Their conversations along the way began to break down the traditional barriers between mothers and daughters. They discussed the most personal topics: love, sex, marriage, divorce, art, ambition, and legacy. In Honey, Baby, Mine, Laura and Diane share these conversations, as well as reflections and anecdotes, taking readers on an intimate tour of their lives. Complementing these candid exchanges, they have included photos, family recipes, and other mementos. The result is a celebration of the power of leaving nothing unsaid that will make you want to call the people you love the most and start talking.

I gave this a try on audio and it wasn‘t for me. The concept is nice and I‘m sure it was a lovely exercise for the family, but it didn‘t feel to me like something that needed to be put out into the world. It felt self-indulgent and theatrical.

When mother Diane was diagnosed with a terminal lung condition, she was told that walks may increase her lung capacity and prolong her life. She and daughter Laura used these walks to say all the things and ask all the questions they had for each other. Laura taped their conversation where they shared thoughts about acting, parenthood, divorce, and favorite foods (recipes included). I recommend going audio!

A beautiful conversation ( I listened to the #audiobook) between mother & daughter will remind you what a gift it is to have a mom in your life. Even when you disagree the bond that you share is precious. Bold, honest, uncomfortable and heartfelt, I was warmed from the love & wisdom shared by Diane Ladd and her daughter, Laura Dern. Perfect gift for Mother‘s Day🫶🏼
Forward is read and written by Reese Witherspoon.

Megabooks I love Reese‘s jokes with Laura on Insta, but they‘ve both been buried from my feed now that I‘m back on it. 🤔🤔 2y

“He whispers to me that we should sit at the counter, so we can see all the action. It‘s about 1:30 in the morning, after our play was over. We order a piece of pie.”
