I‘m not a big fan of Christmas themed books, and this mystery did not change my mind. Sophie Hannah‘s latest Christie reinvention tries hard to be complicated, but it isn‘t — the identity of murderer is no surprise, making Poirot‘s big drawing room reveal just silly.
Catchpool says: “This was far from the first time I had desperately looked forward to leaving a place before I had arrived.” Finishing this book, I know exactly how he felt!
It seems that the last couple of series I have read, I have been starting with the 4th or 5th book. I did the same with Hannah's Hercule Poirot's Silent Night. Now I have to go back and read the others 🤦.
Hannah has written a mystery series using one of the best known investigators in literary fiction, Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. It takes place a few days before Christmas in 1931.

Love anything Agatha Christie, even these new books are awesome.
This is the second of Sophie Hannah‘s Poirot books that I‘ve read and not cared for. Maybe her version is just not for me. It‘s my understanding that Catchpool is supposed to be smart, but you‘d never know it from his actions. The ending of this particular book just came out of nowhere; you can‘t even go back over the story and say, “Oh, yeah — I see where that‘s possible now! I just missed the clues.”
Sophie Hannah does it again! I‘ve liked all of her Poirot books and this one was a very satisfying mystery. It was a little shorter than I picture her books being, but that‘s fine!
Got this one from netgalley, I read the first in the series and enjoyed it.
