so-soI think this is another one of those instances where the goodreads reviews are overly harsh. While I would have liked more adventure and less politics in this Mexican feminine zorro tale, for a debut, I thought the writing was good and the setting was lovely. And it may just be the prettiest book on my shelf.

Sun of Blood and Ruin is a gender reversal Zorro retelling with a lot of fantasy elements that will certainly gain fans. Unfortunately, I had the impression the core story was actually the latter part of the second half of the book and the first half was later added to create a novel out of a novella.
