pickBrown's book sounded similar to These Silent Woods, and I'd never tried her so I decided to give it a shot. It was worth it! Although pacing was choppy there was so much meat it kept my interest the whole way through. Book Clubs and beach readers will all enjoy with themes of capitalism, tech pros & cons, finding yourself and navigating life's grey areas.

pickI've been wanting to try this author, and this book was a great introduction. The premise was interesting and executed nicely although a bit slow in the middle. The MC was an introverted book nerd whose husband very unexpectedly took 3 people hostage. POV bounced between MC and the hostage negotiator. This was a fun, easily recommendable book.

2024 flew by! I'm halfway through December's pick but all ready for January 2025 #bookspin.

pickThis was the 3rd in the series but can be read on its own. I wouldn't go back since major plot points were revealed but will definitely go forward. I have read 3 stand alones previously and Berney is the best kind of fun - a blend of action, drama, darkness & humor with well developed characters. Always a great palate cleanser!

pickDan Slepian, long time Dateline producer, has written an engaging and enraging book. It managed to be both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. He was (still is)relentless in his search for the truth, feeling it his moral obligation. This was a page turner in the most maddening way and should be required high school reading.

pickVercher crafted a well-done, beautifully written literary novel weaving in dry humor and magic realism to delve into many profound themes. The nonlinear timeline going back and forth from present to past filled in all the blanks perfectly. I highly recommend it!!

so-soThis debut memoir had so many things that would make great book club discussions. The refugee and immigrant angles were very interesting. Major themes involved cultural differences in processing grief and healing. The love of food played a big part, as well as body shaming and self identity.
I struggled to finish, though. It was repetitive and a bit whiny.

I love this author so I just bought this book based on that fact and it's the 1st in a series. Now I have opened it for May #bookspin and see there are no chapters, tiny type, filled top to bottom of page with very few breaks. May take a minute😁

The snarky, unreliable MC along with her Podcaster "friend" trying to solve the murder of her best friend was fast paced and entertaining. It's a perfect beach read.

so-soThis is hard for me to review as I jumped right it, got quickly bored but then it kick- started half way through. The 2nd half was too jam packed so it felt rushed but at least compelling enough to finish and call a light pick.
With a non linear plot it touched marriage and motherhood roles, losing and finding your identity and self-worth.

pick"Shades" of Gabby Petito.... this was a well written, fast-paced, true crime lean of a mystery/thriller.
How far will you go to protect your child? How do different socioeconomic classes handle trial by media? Highly recommended!

pickKissenger's intimate, raw, honest personal telling of mental illness. The investigative journalist researched and wrote about the subject for decades before unpacking the details of her own life. Heartaches and shame but also lots of love, resiliency and courage. Highly recommend!
