Hopefully I can read in peace & quiet.

Spied this spot earlier in the week and I‘ve been dreaming of reading here ever since…thinking today‘s the day!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's hard to find historical fiction from WWII that is set in the Pacific Theater. I absolutely loved this book, which fictionalizes the real story of a group of nuns from the Australian Army Nursing Service as they and other women shipwrecked from the Vyner Brooke try to survive in a Japanese POW Camp.

The last op shop I visited on Thurs was such a goldmine it didn‘t all fit in this pic. I got a Ghanda tote bag. My step daughters are obsessed with that shop. I usually wrap their presents in them. I scored a May Gibbs gum nut babies handmade 1 as well for the bargain price of $2. There are also toiletries you can‘t see as well as an oil burner, a bandanna & bows to clip above my bun for ballet. I didn‘t try on the swimmers and the top doesn‘t fit
Having children sent away, being on a boat sunk by the Japanese, taken prisoner, and living without decent health care or food is where we meet all those who survived from the Vyner Brooke merchant ship and others as they endure the hardships in a Japanese POW camp.
Based on true events and real women.
I enjoyed her other books more, but this is still a good read.

FULL REVIEW 10/24
SISTERS UNDER THE RISING SUN is based on true events and real women.
Heather Morris brings to life another WWII book telling us of the survival of women being prisoners of war. I had never heard of these sisters, their imprisonment, nor this POW camp.
You will cheer on the women when they defy their captors and feel every emotion they are feeling. 4/5
