What a great Australian detective novel. I really enjoyed this story, its ongoing twists and turns and characters experience across time.

Great Australian crime fiction. Not a genre I often read these days, but this was an enjoyable summer holiday #palatecleanser. I am back at work next week.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Summer holidays go past too quickly! 11mo
MrsMalaprop @thegirlwiththelibrarybag yes 🙁. Although I‘m telling myself I‘m ready to return to work 😁. 11mo
MrsMalaprop @thegirlwiththelibrarybag 😂 Yeah, I think it is. I‘ve just had 5 weeks off after all, and I do like my job. And I LOVE that I work part-time. (edited) 11mo

#upnext #ozfiction Time for a comfort read. Younger me read a lot of crime fiction. Older me tends to seek more diversity and complexity. From time to time I like to dip my toe back into quality crime fic.
I am recovering from Covid, have one more week of summer holidays before I return to work, and the weather is heating up, so this should be just the ticket.

☀️We are expecting 37C today and 41C tomorrow 🥵

BarbaraBB That is hot and yet I‘d prefer it to the rain and cold over here. Enjoy your last week! 11mo
LeeRHarry Got up to low-mid 30s over here and I nearly melted when I went outside! Heading to the northern hemisphere in Feb and I can‘t wait for the cold and snow! ❄️😊 11mo
Jeg I‘m enjoying being inside with the AC. Hope you are all feeling better. Seems like the holidays have flown by. I enjoyed this book . I 11mo

I finished this over a week ago and was about to hand it on when I realised I hadn‘t put it on here.
I‘m thinking he just gets better with each book. This was a very enjoyable read. I also learnt a lot about those water schemes on the big rivers. I could never understand it all. This goes into the history . Did not see the end coming. Would make a good Xmas present for lovers of Aussie Fiction/crime.

MrsMalaprop I read & enjoyed one of his books. Thanks for the review of this one. 😊 1y
Jeg @MrsMalaprop because I didn‘t write review straight away I for got what I was going to say about it. He is such a fine writer. He has 3 time lines going and I thought for me that would be a problem but it wasn‘t. If you liked his others I‘m sure you will enjoy this one. 1y

So he has noticed. I thought it was just where I live but it seems it might be wide spread.

MrsMalaprop So true. Used to be a Perth thing, but having just been to Melbourne, people were saying the same thing. A post-Covid phenomenon. Our teppanyaki chef said they can‘t open lunchtimes now as they can‘t get the staff. So many people working from home means cafes not open in the city as long as they were before, etc 1y
melissajayne @MrsMalaprop I think it‘s a worldwide thing; a number of places in the closest major city that I live to has the same thing. A lot of people are doing some sort of remote work since 2020. 11mo
