While listening to this audiobook, I found my mind wandering.

The female main character is orphaned, and her sister has been taken to be part of the evil king's harem. She vows to rescue her sister no matter what.

The story is based on true events in Korea in the 1500s.

Hur once again crafts a compelling story (inspired by real events) that takes readers back to the Joseon era. In this one, an unlikely group of people come together to rebel against a tyrant king who wields his power indiscriminately & with wanton cruelty. Of course things get complicated & there are all sorts of twists & turns, high stakes, & even a dash of romance. Entertaining & a good addition for libraries that need YA historical fiction.

This K-Drama-esque historical YA novel follows a girl trying to rescue her sister kidnapped into a violent king's harem, only to meet a crown prince and former royal guard planning a coup. Hur always depicts historical events with such finesse, and I love reading her character-driven stories. Her writing is so vivid and the relationships between characters wonderfully complicated.
