Pickpick

I always snatch up these Famous Horse Stories if I find them in antique shops. Published mostly in the 50s, they're pretty typical MG/YA horse stories from that era. This one is part of a series about kids who live in a ranch in Idaho and their interactions with a wild horse band led by (of course) a magnificent black stallion named King. In this volume, a man claiming to be King's true owner appears and a lot of this story was actually about ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) doing what's right even when you don't want to. Methods for capturing wild horses in this era could be cruel, so some parts were honestly somewhat hard to read. All ends well, though. Not my favorite, but pretty regular fare for the Famous Horse Story collection.

LeahBergen What a lovely collection! 4mo
TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle @LeahBergen - Thank you!!! I've been collecting them since I was but a wee lass 😂 4mo
TheAromaofBooks @Leftcoastzen - I definitely like some of the authors betters than others. Rutherford Montgomery and David Grew's are just so-so for me usually, but I really enjoy Thomas Hinkle and Henry Larom. I've only read two of Dorothy Lyons's books but really liked them. I've been on the lookout for more of hers. 4mo
Charityann I love this! I like collecting vintage books too - I collect mostly Nancy Drew, the Dana Girls, and Trixie Belden, but I have one or two horse books too, though I haven‘t read them yet.😆 4mo
TheAromaofBooks @Charityann - Yes!! I collect those as well - Trixie Belden is especially a favorite. I also have a lot of Happy Hollisters. 4mo
