Napoleon's Spy | Ben Kane

My next 4 books for #52bookclub24 ; another great reading month.

Két feleség (Two Wives, not in the Litsy database) included two thought-provoking novellas about love, desire, and the ghosts of the dead haunting living couples. My first book from this author (Sándor Bródy) but definitely not the last.

(more in the comments)

eeclayton Napoleon's Spy takes place during Napoleon's campaign in Russia. Although I found the descriptions of the campaing compelling with lots of interesting and devastating details, I didn't think the protagonist was likeable, and I wasn't as shaken by the events as I had expected. All in all, it was a good book worth reading, but it didn't stand out for me. 1w
eeclayton Masha has been obsessed with serial killers ever since her father was murdered. When she begins her internship at the Moscow police station, she gets to study the files of some weird killings, and she starts to discover what seems to be the pattern behind these cases.
This was not exactly a page-turner, but an exciting thriller with a good plot. The middle part was rather slow but not uninteresting.
1w
eeclayton Wildtrack is a thriller set in the 1980s written by Bernard Cornwell, who is mostly known for his historical fiction. It was a good book, with enough twists to keep me interested, and I especially liked the atmosphere of life at sea. However, all throughout the book, I felt like the story was promising something that was never quite delivered. 1w
Librarybelle Yay! Great reading! 1w

I felt so-so about the first book in the Scholomance series but I decided to give this second book a try, especially since it fit a couple of challenge prompts that I was finding hard to fill. I enjoyed this installment more, perhaps because I'm finally warming up to the characters.

TheAromaofBooks I really enjoyed this trilogy, but I've seen a lot of mixed reviews. 1w

kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks Glad to hear you enjoyed the trilogy. As mentioned, I was a little lukewarm about the first book, but I've loved everything else Naomi Novik has written. 1w

This installment of the Inspector Rebus series has Rebus sent for “retraining“ among other problematic police officers and involves several complex storylines.

August 2024 Book #5 Elena Knows
My first novel by this author. Short but powerful novel. So intense, well written. It was amazing how the illness was described, I almost felt I was inside Elena‘s body, feeling her frustrations to command her body to react, to follow her instructions. Characters were masterly described, so much was said in a short novel. It was so sad the story of Elena. I was just captivated by this stor, by this written style 5⭐️

Gissy I‘m glad this book was translated to English language. I heard the same positive reaction amongst English readers about the story and translation.

August 2024 Book #4

Megan moved from US to Ireland and she is working in a Limo Service. One day one famous client collapsed after she ate in a restaurant. Megan is a friend of the owners of this restaurant and she accepted to help them in the investigation of the circumstances of this death due to the bad impact this incident can have to the restaurant and because one employee was a suspect of this murder⬇️2.8/3⭐️

Gissy As expected, Megan will be involved in the murder investigation, there will be romance and case will be resolved with her help☺️

Story was a little slow with not so much excitement but I‘m a sucker stories set in Ireland and I love cozy mysteries so I will try book #2🤷🏽‍♀️
