4 Stars • A Calamity of Souls by David Baldacci is a legal drama set in 1968 Virginia, where a racially-charged murder case becomes a pivotal point following the Civil Rights Act. The story revolves around the defense of Jerome Washington, a Black man accused of killing a wealthy, white couple, by a white lawyer named Jack Lee and a Black lawyer named Desiree DuBose. ⬇️

suvata The case is fraught with tension, as the duo fight against a deeply unfair system, political pressure, and personal threats to seek justice for their client. The narrative explores themes of racial tension, the complexities of the legal system, and the personal growth of the characters as they navigate through these challenges. 7mo

Great characters, interesting mystery, a lot of race relations lecturing but plot generated and on point so not off putting. Recommended for anyone looking for a well paced and plotted legal mystery.

A Calamity of Souls | David Baldacci

I wasn‘t going to nominate anything but Audible is featuring the new David Baldacci book, A Calamity of Souls, and I would like to nominate it for #CampLitsy24. I haven‘t ever read any of his work but the description sounds intriguing.

squirrelbrain Thanks! We‘ll add it to the list. 8mo
Megabooks Thanks for nominating! I have a friend who loves his books, but I‘ve never read one. 8mo
