Beast of Burden: A Horror Novella
Beast of Burden: A Horror Novella | Judith Sonnet
1 post | 1 read
After their bassist decides to quit the band, Geriatric Genocide is low on morale. They want to be the next big thing in metal ... but the remaining members are just stuck at home. Growing old ... but not growing up.It's decided that they will go into the forest for a photoshoot, which should lift their spirits ...But things go wrong for the band members (Virtue, Mort, and Rufus) when they are forced into a cave. A dark place, where something evil, ancient, and hungry lurks! From the twisted mind of Judith Sonnet, author of NO ONE RIDES FOR FREE, comes a love letter to metal, horror, and unbreakable friendships. A coming-of-age story, laced with gory and demonic depravity! "Interesting characters and prose that pulls you in leads to a climax of super-splatter that will have fans of Extreme Horror quivering in gooey excitation! Not for the squeamish! -- William Schoell (Author of Saurian)

So here‘s the thing. While I was reading this, it was fine. Not great, but it was entertaining, though it had some grammar issues. BUT, when I read the afterword by the author, I got a big hit in the feels and it changed my perspective on the story. Based on that info from after I read it, I liked it. It‘s emotional and personal for the author, and I appreciate that. It kinda makes me want to reread it with that in mind.
