In the attic

Where did deer antlers come from in our attic?
Like stray branches of some exotic tree.
They lay in a corner brown, twisted, petrified
Covered with dust.

Often I used to go up to the attic and look at the horns in their wild spin -
How would I accept such a twist of fate from which there could be no way out.
