This is an absolutely excellent read — a penetrating look at the very real issue of MMIW, while at the same time a fantastically woven mystery. The frustration and desperation over the missing and murdered in the story felt very real, visceral, and the need for answers was entirely believable. The teens took on a bit more than I think they actually would, but I get that‘s for the purpose of storytelling… 👇🏻

Local Anishinaabe artist Sarah Agaton Howes of the Fond du Lac reservation in Northern Minnesota created the designs. She's widely known for her handmade regalia and moccasins featuring Ojibwe floral designs and through her brand, Heart Berry.

This book was just absolutely heartbreaking at times. This is a debut novel and I can‘t wait to read more from this author.

This book is about the disappearance and murders of several indigenous women and the fight and investigation to find out who killed them. I feel like the author did a great job of shedding light onto the ongoing problem of indigenous women going missing and being killed.

When local girl Loren includes Mara in a traditional Blackfeet Giveaway to honor Loren‘s missing sister, Mara thinks she‘ll finally make some friends on the Blackfeet reservation.

Instead, a girl from the Giveaway, Samantha White Tail, is found murdered.

Because the four members of the Giveaway group were the last to see Samantha alive, each becomes a person of interest in the investigation.

An enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation, Cobell sheds light on the crises of missing & murdered indigenous women in her debut, a YA thriller. Unfortunately, it reads like a debut (one which needs editing) although the author‘s promise also comes through. The story is told from 5 POVs, 4 of which are indistinguishable more often than not, which slows things done significantly until things happen fast. Still, a soft pick for an important topic.
