After the Jacobson siblings win a life-changing fortune in the lottery, they assume their messy lives will transform into sleek, storybook perfectionbut they couldnt be more wrong. The four Jacobson children were raised to respect the value of a dollar. Their mother reused tea bags and refused to pay retail; their father taught them to budget before he taught them to ride a bike. And yet, now that theyre adults, their financial lives are in disarray. The siblings reunite when their newly widowed father puts their Jersey Shore beach house on the market. Packing up childhood memories isnt easy, especially when theres other drama brewing. Matthew is miserable at his corporate law job and wishes he had more time with his son; Lauras marriage is imploding in spectacular fashion; Sophies art career is stalled while her boyfriends is on the rise; and Noahs total failure to launch has him doing tech repair for pennies. When Noah sees an ad for a Powerball drawing, he and his sisters go in on tickets while their brother Matthew passes. All hell breaks loose when one of the tickets is a winner and three of the four Jacobsons become overnight millionaires. Without their mothers guidance, and with their father busy playing pickleball in a Florida retirement village, the once close-knit siblings search for comfort in shiny new toys instead of each other. Its not long before the Jacobsons start to realize that theyll never feel rich unless they can pull their family back together.

#audiostitching (plus bird-, squirrel-, chipmunk- & deer- watching) while listening to this family navigate grief, parenting issues, romantic relationships, work/ life balance, & more. All while dealing with 3 of the 4 siblings winning the powerball.

bookandbedandtea can see how this family- & all their dramas- could have completely annoyed me on a different day but today I was willing to root for them. It was refreshing to read about a family whose members like each other. (Lottery drama aside 😉) 5d

You can count on Friedland for a great beach read!

Four adult siblings head to the Jersey Shore to pack up the family beach house ahead of their widower dad‘s move to Florida. Three of the siblings go in on a Powerball lottery ticket and win the jackpot, but it ends up creating more strife than joy. Be ready to suspend your disbelief to enjoy this lighthearted romp!

Slow pick since I liked this dad and his four grown siblings with their partners. However, it was a lot to get to know them before, during, and in the aftermath of a power ball lottery win. It became a superficial look addressing the conflicts in place and then how those issues played out after becoming buoyed by millions. I think this story would have benefitted by editing out a sibling thereby giving the pages to fewer conflicts.
