pickA serendipitous find in a second-hand bookstore, I loved this & will seek out more from Cees Nooteboom. The story of a man who had an affair with his colleague's wife, it travels between Amsterdam & Portugal - both evoked w pithy, spot-on descriptions. Light but learned, with a dry sense of humour, the style is intimate & engaging but reveals many layers: Greek myths, death, metamorphosis & a worldly eye. Shape-shifting but assured, v readable.
