3 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
There are friends we can't imagine living without.Morgan and Jimmy were kids together, whirling around the porch on hot summer days. They've been friends forever, and by now they know each other inside out. They do everything together--from cutting high school to go into the city to coaching each other at dance auditions and acting workshops. They even argue well. A perfect friendship. Best friends. For life.So how could life be so right and then be so wrong? After a terrible accident, Morgan suddenly has to face life alone. Without Jimmy around, though, it's like the best part of her has died. How could he do this to her? And why is love so hard?

My favorite book as a teen. Need to re-read. 😁

I first read this book as a 13yo, and it absolutely wrecked me. It was the first book I really read that dealt with hard hitting topics - loss and grief in a relatable contemporary setting. Still love the way it was portrayed 15 years later. 5⭐️

LizzyNanney I seriously refer to this book as "the crying book" because I read it when I was 13 and my mom came in to find me sobbing. So good but so sad! 8y
BringMyBooks @LizzyNanney OMG I can totally relate! This is the first book that ever made me ugly sob and I don't even know that I fully understood why at the time. 8y
LizzyNanney Mmmhmm. I didn't cry when the tragic thing (no spoilers for anyone reading this) happens but the emotional aftermath tore me up. Did you read the sequel? I didn't like it as much. 8y

BringMyBooks @LizzyNanney THERE WAS A SEQUEL?!?! (That's basically my answer to that btw) 8y
BringMyBooks @LizzyNanney Also, I totally agree with what you said up there ^. I think the reason it lacked such an emotional punch is how visceral and real it all felt. 8y
LizzyNanney Yeah, the sequel is called The Night I Disappeared and Morgan is in it but she's not the main character. If you read it you should tell me your thoughts! 8y

That's what it's all about - knowing what you have to lose, but risking the loss anyway."
