9 posts | 8 read | 1 reading | 5 to read
A talent agent hires an actress play the part of novelist on a book tour for his agencys publicity-shy client in this delightful rom-com from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Reeses Book Club Pick One Day in December Talent agent Charlie Francisco has three problems: a divorce that ended his screenwriting career, a business he never planned to inherit, and a take-your-breath-away romance novel whose author wants nothing to do with its publication. The book is a surefire hit, if only his agency can find someone to play author on its summer book tour. Enter Kate Elliot, a former soap actress whos miraculously right for the part at the very moment her life seems to be going all wrong. Kate is still recovering from her own divorce, and Charlies job offer is a lifeline. She agrees to act as the author for all interviews, signings, and appearances surrounding the novels publication. But she cant know who really wrote the remarkable storythe one so beautiful its made her believe in love again. When Kate and Charlie meet theyre all friction and sparksthe one thing they have in common is theyre determined to play their parts. But as the summer heats up and the lies get bigger and bigger, can they stick to their lines . . . or will they go off-script?

A solid 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 for Goodreads. This was an interesting premise & I enjoyed the characters and narration. It wasn‘t the best but it wasn‘t bad. I liked Kate as a character. I guess I don‘t have much to say about it lol but it wasn‘t bad. If you‘re looking for a nice fun light read, then this is it.

What an ode to the book community, to grief, and to the love that precedes and (if you‘re lucky) follows it.

And, to sweeten the pot, you know it‘s a Josie Silver novel because there‘s a tiny seaside cottage in which the characters find solace, comfort, and purpose.

One Night on the Island is still my favorite of the author‘s books. But this one has a brief appearance by an Irish Wolfhound AND the line…👇🏻

monalyisha 1/2: …“Kate sagged against her chair, tear-stained and overwhelmed with affection for [name redacted]: the wo/man, the T-Rex, the romance writer.” So, I‘d say it lived up to my expectations! (edited) 3mo
monalyisha 2/2: I do wish the sexy bits had been a little spicier. They‘re not prudish but they could…push a little deeper? Go a little harder? There‘s no good (or bad?) way to finish that sentence. 😂 3mo
monalyisha *Note: I will say that I almost stopped reading after the first chapter when the MC got baby vomit on her clothes before an interview and THREW HER JACKET IN THE TRASH. I‘m glad I kept going but I‘d be lying if I didn‘t admit that I found such a demonstration of privilege & waste distasteful. If I‘d just been deciding which book to read and Josie Silver‘s name hadn‘t been attached, I would have set it aside & moved on to the next book in my stack. 3mo

Amiable Great review! 3mo
Laughterhp I might give this one a try. I put down her last one, a Winter in NY, because the MC went to a bookstore for her favorite series and apparently it only had 1 copy and the male MC got it instead. It annoyed me that it was her favorite book and she was anticipating it and didn‘t preorder it lol. 3mo
monalyisha @Laughterhp I‘m here to tell you that there are those among us who work in a library every day and STILL don‘t remember to put books on hold until way too late — and yes, we are annoyed with ourselves, too. 🙈 3mo

This book felt rushed to me. I felt like the love story was thrown together haphazardly and the relationship was never developed. Also, it has nothing to do with summer 😆

The coincidental timing of this book release along with James Frey‘s newest made this particularly interesting and fun to read. The FMC is hired to act the role of author to a newly released romance as the actual author opts anonymity. The media and the public love her until they don‘t. It‘s an HEA and of course we root for Kate. I couldn‘t help but to think of the James Frey brouhaha all those years ago when his first book went awry.

This is very cute. I like this author (except for that 1 book).

Very good. Full of romance. Josie Silver just keeps on getting better with every book. This story follows Kate who takes on the role of an author as the actual author doesn't want to be associated with the book. Shows the highs and lows of social media. Full of bookish goodness. Thank you #PenquinRandomHouse for the free copy via #Netgalley.
