Yak Girl
Yak Girl: Growing Up in the Remote Dolpo Region of Nepal | Dorje Dolma
1 post | 1 read
This unusual memoir of a spirited girl in the remote region of Nepal described in Peter Matthiesons The Snow Leopard vividly portrays life in her primitive mountain village in the 80s, her struggles in bewildering Kathmandu, and her journey to America to receive life-saving surgery. An inspiring story of an indomitable spirit conquering all obstacles, a tale of a girl with a disability on her way to becoming a dynamic woman in a new world.

Pickpick

This book is about the early life of the author in a remote village in Dolpo in the mountains. Most of this is set in the Dolpo region with Dorje growing up and herding her animals. The last part of the book about some of her family going to Kathmandu to try and find medical help for her brother and ending with her staying and moving to America for surgery. It was interesting and I‘m glad there was a family update at the end!

Texreader This sounds interesting! How‘d you find this book? I‘m impressed! 2d
Bookworm54 @Texreader I usually just search for authors until I find something that jumps out at me 😂 sounds like the family/neighbours have been in a couple of films about the region as well. I think “Himalayas” was one and “The only son”. I haven‘t watched them but I bet they are interesting! 2d
