Still in a bit of a 📖 slump; but this horror novel about an arcade game that can heighten your aggression hooked me. Liked it all, couldn‘t wait to pick it up and read more and would absolutely read another novel by this author.
Book 15 of 2025
Based on an 80's urban legend of a cursed video game, an aspiring computer programmer accepts an arcade position in her little California seaside town. As the patrons flock to try out the newest arcade sensation, Polybius, it becomes apparent that something is off as the residents begin experiencing subliminal messages, turning them into mindless, violent drones. It's up to a group of unaffected citizens to save everyone in this sci-fi horror.
This was a random library find last week. I really enjoyed this fast-paced unhinged horror story about a small town that is changed by a mysterious new arcade game. While googling the title just now I see that it's based on an actual urban legend:

Unrelated to the book, I saw “Sinners“ last night. Def one of the best movies I've watched this yr.
Based on an urban legend about a video game that causes changes in people's brains, I was really excited to read this. This book was very tense, as the effects of the game begin to permeate the town. This book was very violent. It is awful to see how quickly a group of people can devolve into extreme violence. The scariest part of the book was how believable it was, that the government would destroy an entire town to cover up what happened there.
