Decided to re-read this before donating - so glad I did as I now know I don't want to part with it. Just wow - what a book! I remember loving it the first time just not why. It really is so moving, profound, powerful, empowering. It is to do with female sexuality as essential to a whole self but also father/daughter relationships and it's that aspect that really hit home for me. The women in it are tragic, inspirational... cont. in comments
Re-reading this one before I donate it. First read it, gosh, maybe 17 or 18 years ago so I can't really remember it at all. I remember being moved by it and recommending it at the time so I'm hoping it hasn't lost any of its power in the intervening years.
Interesting fact! This is the first physical book I've read all year. When I opened it I was kinda frustrated by how gloomy the pages were 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Don‘t remember a damn thing about this book. It‘s on my shelves and has underlinings within; so I must‘ve read it. Guess I didn‘t like it much🤷♀️

This was a "Blind Date with a Book" that I picked up a couple months ago based on a really short, vague description. The book was wrapped, so I had no idea what was waiting for me when I unwrapped it at 5 a.m. this morning. This was a really good read & beautifully written. I've never been disappointed by an Alice Walker book, and this book was no exception. #readathon
Unwrapped this blind date with a book to find "By the Light of My Father's Smile" by Alice Walker. Off to a good start in the #readathon.
